Bar Harbor, Maine---rest day. That means we can do anything we want. We slept late---until 7am when the room alarm clock kindly alarmed us!-oh, well. Thanks to Hurricane Francine, weather has turned cloudy, but it is not raining yet. Marathoners divided today into whale watchers, shoppers, and Acadia National Park visitors. We found bird watching in dense fog less than ideal, disappointing as hawks and eagles are beginning their migration south. Terry tested his footing on slippery, barnacled covered tidal rocks---the score is now Barnacles: 1, Terry: 0.
Acadia National Park was set aside to preserve Maine's beauty and history. They have done a good job, as the scenery is spectacular (even with fog). Cadillac Mountain is said to be the highest mountain on the eastern seaboard and the first US soil to see the sunrise.
Chicagoans Don and Susan Dethlefson are here driving their 1965 1800 TISA. They have sold their trucking company, and Don is now running The Werkshop-a Vintage BMW Restoration facility. They are also providing the "sag wagon" service with their giant carhauling truck, driven by "Lefty". Another of Don's employees, Matt is here as an emergency service tech.

The Mountain Club on Loon Lake, NH. Another Marathon day of driving today, took us across Maine to the west. Grant and Joan Randall joined Debbie and I spending the day behind the main pack as we took an extra hour to visit IAIBMWSP member Voit Rich's Town Line Motorwerks and later Rick Stormer's Covered Bridge Motor Sports in New Hampshire. It's always fascinating to us how other shop owners have solved the same problems in myriads of different ways.
There are a couple more casualties today----Don Guertin's 327 succumbed to numerous small difficulties, including the lack of a top and non-functional wipers (very rainy today). Don has taken it home to Mass, but plans to stay with us in his modern car. Jim Smith has broken the differential in his 328, but he has contacted Tom Graham in Sonoma for a replacement and will try to get it back together for the finish.
The White Mountain BMW CCA Chapter welcomed us to the lodge this evening, and we had a delicious dinner in this beautiful mountain setting.
