The
Homestead, Hot Springs, Virginia. Rest Day, supposedly. But as
the official photographers of the event, we had to catch up on
photo processing and printing, then organize all the cars for
various group photo shots in the afternoon. Worthwhile, but it's
a bunch of work.
Other Marathoners visited the famous and historic hot springs,
toured this famous old hotel, golfed, stopped in at the Washington
Library, hiked the trails on the grounds and in the gardens, or
just plain relaxed. A very pleasant sunny day----maybe our last;
looks like we are headed for Hurricane Ivan tomorrow.

Chetola
Resort, Blowing Rock, NC. We're back onto the Blue Ridge Parkway
this morning but we're not fully appreciating the views since
the visibility is sometimes down to just a few feet. Fog is the
main player today, with rain as a steady back-up. Many, if not
most of us, are finding water leaks where we didn't know they
were possible.
The Chetola Resort is fantastic! Nestled in the North Carolina
Blue Ridge Mountains amongst the trees, lakes, and curvy BMW roads;
we love it here. Debbie and I got here with enough time to take
a soggy hike around the grounds in the fog, but Ivan is coming.

Spartenburg,
SC. Ivan blew through in the night. We can see a lot of branches
and leaves downed by the night winds, but the main damage has
occurred to the west and north of us. We've been very lucky.
Due to bridge and highway damage, we have to use route plan B
and drive on different back roads down to Spartenburg. Spartenburg:
Mecca to US BMW people. It's very exciting to visit the Zentrum,
see the Museum and tour the factory where Z4 and X5 birth happens!
It's a very impressive and professional operation.
